Guy Hamilton Eargle, Jr., 68, fondly known as "Bugsy", died on July 17, 2017 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
He was born on August 5, 1948 in Bamberg, SC, a son of the late Jean Jennings and Guy Hamilton Eargle, Sr.
Guy was a former member of the SC National Guard and was a retired executive from P.T. Protelindo Telecommunications Co.
He graduated from Miami Norland High School in Florida and attended the University of South Carolina on a baseball scholarship. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at USC.
A great athlete in many sports, he excelled in baseball. In 1969, Guy was drafted in the thirteenth round by the San Diego Padres where he played first base and in the outfield. He had the honor of spring training with the NY Yankees in 1972. He was proud of his pro baseball accomplishments. Off the field, he realized professional success in telecommunications.
Not only was he a quick wit, he was a man who did his research and was knowledgeable on many subjects. He was a captivating story teller and an incredibly generous man with his family and friends and he made the best pancakes. Guy was a "man whose heart was big and his generosity for others endless."
He is survived by his daughter and granddaughter of Newberry, Shannon Eargle Lindsay (Ryan) and Aubrey Grace Lindsay, both of whom brought him incredible pride; a brother, Richard "Rink" Henry Eargle of Peachtree City, GA; niece, Kristen Lee McCormack (Charles), nephew, Ryan Finney, great nephew, Christopher Dewine all of Newberry; uncles, Roger Eargle (Florence) and Condon Eargle (Christine); several cousins and a wide circle of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Greyson Eargle and his sister, Jean Jennings Eargle Logan.
Services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry, SC by the Rev. Matthew Titus. The family will greet friends following the service.
