Private family services were held for Guy H. Eargle Sr. of Newberry SC who died Thursday September 25 2014. Mr. Eargle was born on Nov. 25 1921 in Columbia a son of the late Marvin and Lillian Riley Eargle. He was a First Lieutenant and a B-26 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He flew 69 missions and was awarded the Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaves. He attended Furman University on a football scholarship and achieved All Southern Conference honors in 1948. He graduated in 1949. He was a math teacher and football coach at Carlisle Military School from 1950 to 1961 and also taught at several schools in Miami and Atlanta. He and his wife were avid photographers and won many awards for their work. He was a Past President of the Photo Society of Cobb County. Mr. Eargle was the loving husband of the late Jean Jennings Eargle for more than 60 years. He was the proud father of a daughter Jean Logan who died in 2009 and three sons Guy Jr. and Richard both of Atlanta GA. and William Billy Gray Grayson who died in 1972. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Kristen McCormick (Charles) Shannon Lindsay (Ryan) and Ryan Finney all of Newberry; two great-grandchildren Grace Lindsay and Christopher DeWine; and brothers Marvin Eargle of Birmingham AL Condon Eargle (Christine) of Columbia and Roger Eargle (Flu) of Lexington. In addition to his parents and children he was predeceased by his brother John Gink Riley.
