Harold "Nick" Sidney Nicholson, died at Agape Hospice House of Lexington on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on August 30, 1945, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Harold Nicholson and Ethel Patricia Nicholson.
Harold, lovingly known as Nick, led a fulfilling life steeped in love, service, and dedication. He proudly served his country as a member of the Marines, embodying the spirit of commitment and honor that defined his everyday life. In his civilian life, Nick was a Roofing Supervisor for Bates Roofing.
Nick was a devoted Gamecocks fan. He found joy and tranquility in the challenging grids of crossword puzzles, as well as in the pages of countless books that kindled his vivid imagination. A staunch advocate for animal welfare, Nick's love for animals was profound and enduring and he is survived by his pet companions, Charlotte and Boomer.
He is also survived by his sister, Patricia "Libby" Olivia Hughes; son, Harold (Melissa) Nicholson, and his granddaughter, Sidney Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Nicholson, his mother, Ethel Patricia Nicholson, brother Chauncey Fox and his brother-in-law, Donald Hughes.
A service will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin, South Carolina, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 1 pm. Following the service, Harold will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina, at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Harold's name to a local animal shelter, honoring his passion and commitment to the welfare of animals.
