Harold Wayne Smith of White Rock, SC passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the age of 94.
Born on December 11, 1927 in Blackwell, OK, he was a son of the late John and Nellie Powell Smith.
Harold was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Following his service, he worked for the railroad, then for RCA and in the wood products industry. He also owned his own electronics business. Throughout the course of his life, he was able to experience much of the United States having lived in Eugene, OR; Carson City, NV; Parkesburg, PA; and White Rock, SC.
Harold's passion was learning. He avidly studied a wide variety of subjects and became an expert in many; such as railroad trains, pipe organs, geology, natural disasters, psychology, engineering and history. He was always reading a book or searching for something new on his computer and loved discussing what he was learning.
Harold enjoyed old movies, especially westerns. He also loved various types of music from pan pipes and pipe organs to classic rock & roll and Les Paul; and he played guitar.
Harold was a proud conservative and found peace in being a new member of the Roman Catholic Church.
He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) and Mark Desrosiers, who cared for him over the last 15 years; and by his Grand Doggie, Teddy, who brought him great joy.
He is also survived by his other children, Michelle Rabideau, Carson Beebe, Dennis Smith, and Donald Smith; step-children, Jerry Smith and Sharon Morrow; a sister, Joanne Odom; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings; Lloyd Smith, Marjorie Friend, Marie Cantrell, and Ivan Smith.
Inurnment services will be held at a later time at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Cemetery.
