Harriet Haltiwanger Summers 75 of Chapin died Tuesday April 1 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church Chapin at 3:00 PM on Friday April 4 2014 with Rev. Ralph Hill and Rev. Ginger Litman-Koon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Thursday April 3 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. Born on January 21 1939 in Chapin she was a daughter of the late O. B. and Katie Haltiwanger Summers. She was a retired employee of Chapin School District and a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was an avid reader enjoyed cross word puzzles and working in her yard. She loved Chapin the people of Chapin and most especially her church. Harriet was a very loving and caring person who always had a big smile on her face and arms opened wide for a hug. Even though she suffered many adversities in her life she met them with great courage and determination. She had a deep and abiding faith which sustained her through hard times. Harriet will always be loved and greatly missed. She is survived by sisters Barbara Siokos (C.J.) of Columbia Sybil Cousins of Newberry Betty Westwood (Tom) of Newberry Sandra Bryan (Ralph) of Newberry and Celia Cantrell (Larry) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Obrien Summers of Dorchester. The family expresses thanks to Darcy and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care.
