Harvey W. Oxner, 82 of Newberry, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland. Born on December 1 1933, in Newberry, he was the son of the late W. Boyd Oxner and Irene Smith Oxner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force He retired from I.B.M. after 33 1/2 years of service and was the recipient of 5 awards during his years with them. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Leisure Club, and was a former member and chairman of the congregational council Mr. Oxner was a giving man who could fix anything, especially electronics. He enjoyed traveling with his family and writing letters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; Genell Oxner; granddaughter, Ashlyn Genell Williams of Stone Mountain, GA; and son-in-law, Richard Williams of Stone Mountain, GA In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Peggy Ann Oxner Williams; grandson, Brandon J. Kent; Brothers, George, Rudy, and Mac Oxner; and sister Mary Boyd Cox. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church by the Rev. Al Potter. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 PM, on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Whitaker Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church at 1508 Wilson Road, Newberry, SC. Active pallbearers will be Tony Lybrand, Cayce Lybrand, Craig Shealy, William C. Shealy, Shawn Roberts, and Barry Cox.
