Hazel Phelps Matthews 83 wife of the late Edward Haywood Matthews died Sunday November 16 2014 at her residence in Little Mountain SC. She was born on November 17 1930 in Raleigh NC a daughter of the late Willie Eli Phelps and Beulah Wilson Phelps. Mrs. Matthews worked as a librarian in the North Carolina Schools. She appreciated all of nature and especially loved her fish pond. She was also an animal lover who was often found feeding both the tame and the wild animals. She is survived by her children Doug Matthews of Salisbury NC Charles Matthews of Wilmington NC and Donna Matthews of Little Mountain; siblings Bill Phelps of Raleigh NC Luna Mae Garrett of Columbia SC Norman Phelps of Greensboro NC Joyce Phelps of Durham NC and Kenneth Phelps of Crestview FL; grandchildren Tommy Klutz Kelly Winfree Keera Hernandez Mandy Matthews Charles Matthews and Chad Matthews and twelve great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday November 20 2014 at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh NC.
