Helen Caughman Campbell

Helen Caughman Campbell, 78, of Columbia, South Carolina, died on September 16, 2026.

She was born in Columbia on October 6, 1947 to GP and Eleanor Caughman. She was a graduate of Dreher High School in Columbia. After attending Winthrop College, Helen dedicated 30 years to graphics and advertising at Blue Cross Blue Shield before retiring in 2011. In her free time, she enjoyed attending plays at Town Theatre, Chapin Community Theatre, and Workshop Theatre, visiting the Biltmore Estate, attending the Carolina Cup in Camden, and attending the annual Spoleto Festival in Charleston. Children always held a special place in Helen’s heart, especially her talented niece and nephew, in whom she took great pride. As a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, Helen was extremely active in the church. She filled many roles throughout the years, such as singing in the choir, producing the church bulletins and newsletter, teaching Sunday school, and serving on the congregation council. As a proud member of WELCA, faith was a large part of her life. She also assisted with monthly gatherings and parties for residents at Heritage at Lowman.

Helen is survived by her brother, Huger Caughman (Anne); nieces and nephews, Chris Opat, Jeri Treb, Kristin Caughman, Jody Caughman, and Huger Caughman, Jr.; and many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, G. Perry Caughman, III, and Robert F. Caughman, and her beloved poodles, Bella and Punkin.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer. The family will receive friends following the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Helen’s dear friends from Springfield Place.

The family suggests that memorials be made to The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer music program or building fund, 1515 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

The family wants to extend a special thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor, Springfield Place, as well as Dr. Michael Bernardo and staff, and Dr. Oscar Lovelace and staff, for their unsurpassed, dedicated care of Helen.
