Obituary

Henry Lawrence Eason 84 of Newberry passed away Sunday February 26 2012 at Springfield Place. Mr. Eason was born in Sumter on June 19 1927 a son of the late Joseph Haywood and Elizabeth Wells Eason. He graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter and received a BS degree in Animal Science from Clemson College in 1951. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of WW II having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific and Victory medals. Mr. Eason was employed by the Clemson University Extension Service where he served in Chester Fairfield Lancaster Laurens Newberry and York counties in a career that spanned 30 years. He retired as a County Extension Leader-Emeritus in 1985. Mr. Eason was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Chesley Cannon Bible Class and sang in the Chancel Choir for 29 years. He served on several committees at the church including the Official Board. He was a member of the Amity Masonic Lodge #87 AFM and was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He served as Secretary of the SC Jersey Cattle Club for 13 years where he received the Honors Award in 1985. He served as Chairman of the Newberry County Soil and Water Conservation District and as Chairman of the East Piedmont District where he was awarded Commissioner of the Year in 1991. Mr. Eason also served on the Clemson Advisory Committee the Newberry Farm Museum Committee and was a member of the Newberry Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Newberry Cattlemens Association and the Newberry Rotary Club where he served as the Chairman of the Layperson Committee and as the first chairman of the YMCA committee which led to the development of the Newberry YMCA. He was a past Vice-President of the Laurens Exchange Club a long-time member of the Newberry Rotary Club was a life member of the Bush River and Silverstreet Young Farmers Association and was instrumental in forming the Lower Newberry County Farmers Association. Mr. Eason is survived by his wife of 61 years Frances Rickmond Eason of the home; children Barry K. and Linda E. Grant of Rock Hill; Robert M. and Rebecca J. Eason of Columbia and Joseph L. and Annette P. Eason of Florence; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister Mrs. Lonnie Price of Sumter. He was predeceased by sisters Lillian Eason Ross Melba Barbour Dreyer Ruth Barbour Leeper Jeanne Barbour Molle Sarah Barbour Seitz and infant Mary Elizabeth Eason; and brothers Joseph Harrell Eason Emil Earl Eason John Daniel Eason Alonzo Herbert Barbour. Burial was in Newberry Memorial Gardens preceding a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 PM Tuesday February 28 at the Central United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall by The Reverend Karen Radcliffe.
