He discovered the South when he took a position in Laurens, SC at E L Mansure Company. It was during this time that he along with a friend formed their company The Outer Edge which later developed into Metal Masters located in Jalapa, SC. In his last years at Metal Masters, Jerry also served as a consultant for Dupont and as the site manager for three of the Dupont locations. Jerry had a very sharp mind and experienced life day by day never looking back with regret but rather appreciated each day and all the many adventures and opportunities of his life.
