Little Hodge Harmon 75 of Newberry died Tuesday August 13 2013 at White Oak Manor Newberry. Born August 4 1938 in Newberry he was the son of the late Hodges William and Ernestine Oswald Harmon. Mr. Harmon attended Newberry City schools graduating in 1956. He attended Clemson University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Forestry and Agriculture in 1961. He was employed by the S.C. Forestry Commission until his retirement in 2000 after thirty-nine years. During his career as a professional forester he shared his passion for tree farming and operated a family tree farm and wildlife sanctuary. After retirement he was a consultant to South Carolina landowners. Mr. Harmon served the S.C. Farm Bureau on the Commodities Board as well as the Forestry Advisory Committee for many years. He was elected as District Commissioner for the Newberry Soil and Water Commission where he served numerous terms and additionally served on the Central Midlands Council of Government from 2001 to 2013. Mr. Harmon was a charter member of the S.C. Forestry Association past officer of the Newberry County Forestry Association and a member of the Society of American Foresters for over fifty years where he was elected Fellow. He was a member of the Clemson Forestry Alumni Association and received the honor of Outstanding Forestry Alumni. Mr. Harmon was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Prosperity. He is survived by his wife Leslie Barber McKinney Harmon; a son Joseph Eric Harmon of Newberry; a daughter Dondee Renee Harmon Lewis (Dennis) of Lexington; and two step-daughters Kay McKinney Sease (Morgan) of Newberry and Elizabeth McKinney Carrouth of Fort Mill. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nia Harmon Hayden Harmon Lewis Logan Lewis Cameron Clary Bennett Sease Jacob Sease Judge Carrouth and Brett Carrouth. The family was at the home 2244 Hodge Road Newberry SC and did receive friends on Thursday August 15 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at Zion United Methodist Church of Prosperity on Friday August 16 at 3:00 P.M. with the Reverend David Taylor officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Webber Robby Bass Jessie Simons Hayden Harmon Lewis Cameron Clary and Michael Mills.
