Horace W. "Red" McElroy 84 formerly of 8 Player St. Newberry died Saturday January 10 2009 at The Cottages at Brushy Creek.He was born on July 4 1924 in Atalla County Mississippi a son of the late Verbie A. and Grace Massey McElroy. Mr. McElroy was a Navy veteran of WW II having served in the South Pacific Theater and was a retired employee at Ft. Jackson. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and attended Christ the King Lutheran Church.He is survived by his daughter Neva M. Granger and her husband Stan of Greenville; 3 grandchildren Thomas W. Granger Stan Granger Jr. and his wife Alyson and Kevin Granger and his partner Jennifer Jessup; 3 great grandchildren Abby Granger Stan Granger III and Andy Granger; 2 sisters Tommie Ingram and Faye Moore both of Carthage MS; and a brother Leon McElroy of Brandon MS. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years Lottie Bowers McElroy; 2 sisters Lila Williamson and Pauline Spears.Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Marilyn Crosby and Rev. Ron Smith. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.Visitation was from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home.
