Hubert M. "Hugh" Clements, 79, of Little Mountain, died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Martha Franks Retirement Community in Laurens, SC.
Born on January 12, 1938 in Wheeler County, GA, he was a son of the late Earl H. Clements and Doris Aiken Clements McGraw. He earned his Ed.D in Counseling from the University of Georgia.
Hugh retired as Department Commissioner for Administration with the S.C. Department of Corrections and authored several "correctional" publications. He was a former professor at both the University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Men's Sunday School Class, the Little Mountain Ruritan Club, and the American and S.C. Correctional Associations.
Hugh and Emily enjoyed their life living on a boat for three years and both also appreciated long distance hiking, crossing the Grand Canyon six times. As a member of the High Pointers Club, Hugh and Emily hiked to the highest points in 42 of the 50 states. He also enjoyed flying airplanes.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Emily Elledge Clements; children, Michael K. Clements (Samantha) of Tampa, FL and Kyle H. Clements (Theresa) of Ladson; grandchildren, Taylor, Joshua, Jeremy, and Riley; sister, Linda Fox (Kenny) of Jacksonville and Joy Clements; step-mother, who he called "Mom", Margaret Fussell Clements of Jacksonville; sister-in-law, Margaret Millner of Whitmire; nieces, Sarah Lee (Jason) and Laura Prince (Jonathon) all of Whitmire and great nephews Colton Lee and Isaac Prince.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Betty Clements and step-father, Winfred "Fred" Lee McGraw.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Little Mountain conducted by the Rev. Brett Collins. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church Family Life Center following the interment.
Pallbearers will be Lee Attaway, Will Attaway, Alex Attaway, Lane Attaway, Jonathon Prince and Jason Lee.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class and Subway Crew on Highway 773.
