Inge Charlotte Berndt (Sikes), 82, died on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at her home in Chapin with her family by her side. Born on April 20, 1939 in Bremerhaven, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl W. Berndt and Anna E. Funk Berndt. While living in Germany, Inge worked for the US Government as a secretary and was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Surheide. Eventually, she moved to the United States and began working as a unit secretary in the Intensive Care Units at several hospitals in South Carolina. Inge enjoyed the beauty of nature's gifts, spending most of her time gardening in her yard, enjoying the ocean at Myrtle Beach, or hiking in the mountains. Along with nature, she enjoyed cooking and the occasional trips back home to Bremerhaven. Most importantly, Inge was a wonderful mother who always prioritized giving her only son, Ronnie, a loving and happy life. Inge is the last living member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Karla Massen. Private services will be held at a future date.
