Ingeborg "Inge" Ferus Montgomery, 94, of Newberry, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Born on December 18, 1921 in Budweis, Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late Rudolf and Wilhelmina Ferus. She attended a language school in Prague and studied gymnastics in Berlin. Inge enjoyed an active life. Always an energetic person, she participated in sports activities, in particular water skiing, snow skiing and tennis, all of which she continued into her 80s. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Murray and rides on the pontoon boat. Inge was a gracious hostess who took pleasure in entertaining others. She was married to the late Benton M. Montgomery, MD. She is survived by children; Erika (Phillip) Mays of Lexington and Benton M. "Mac" (Heather O'Dell) Montgomery of Newberry; grandsons, Benton McQueen Montgomery, IV of Charleston, Matthew Montgomery Mays of Greenville and Marcus Everette Mays of Lexington; brother, Helmut (Edelgard) Ferus of Ochsenhausen, Germany; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Rudolf Ferus, Jr. and a dear friend, Colonel Harry Lowman. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 12 Noon at Williamsburg Cemetery in Kingstree, SC. The family will receive friends at the home, 2121 Mower Street in Newberry on Friday, August 26 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
