Isaac Asher Slagle, 21 years of age, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Born on December 31, 1998, he was the first born son of Sam and Spring Hope Slagle of Chapin. Isaac was a beloved member of Chapin Methodist Church and an active participant in their Sonflower Special Needs Ministry.
Isaac Made the World a Better Place! Isaac's name means "Happy Laughter". Isaac had a tremendous impact on the world during his short time here. Born a unique and exceptional child, with the support of his family and the online community they created, I Can 4 Isaac, he always created his own path, spreading joy, love, hope and friendship to people all over the world. The motto of I Can 4 Isaac said it all, "I Can! You Can! Together We Can Change The World!"
Isaac Was Happy Laughter! He loved to "Be Happy" and to celebrate. Isaac looked forward to every holiday the calendar offered. Isaac especially loved Christmas which he knew was a time to celebrate "One Gift For You."
Isaac created a new holiday: First Day! Isaac's love of holidays and excitement for celebrations led him to create his own holiday, "First Day". First Day is celebrated on the First Day of Every Month. Each First Day is a Call to Action for us to : Be Kind! Say Thanks! and Give Encouragement to Everyone We Encounter! The family asks that everybody add First Day to their calendars in honor and memory of Isaac.
Isaac Was An Artist! In 2017, Isaac met Dana. Dana introduced Isaac to painting and taught Isaac that he was an artist. Every week, they sang "You Are My Sunshine" and then Isaac created a masterpiece. Isaac leaves behind a beautiful collection of work that celebrates the wonders of the natural beauty of South Carolina.
Isaac Was A Special Friend of the South Carolina State Parks. He completed all three levels of the state's Junior Park Ranger Program and then went on to become the very first person to complete the SC Park System's "Ultimate Outsider Challenge" by experiencing each of the 47 South Carolina State Parks. Isaac continued to love the State Parks and embraced their directive to "Come Out and Play." His adventures through the parks are chronicled in the book The First Family of Outsiders. Before his death, Isaac completed the Ultimate Outsider Challenge five times.
Isaac Made a Difference! He made it possible for others to enjoy the South Carolina State Parks. Isaac raised funds for and donated two beach wheelchairs to each of the Atlantic facing South Carolina State Parks. He also raised money for and donated a trail wheelchair to Lee State Park, tablet computers to Devil's Fork State Park and Musgrove Mill State Park, books, puzzles and toys to various other State Parks as well as to The Children's Hospital in Columbia. Most recently, Isaac helped to raise funds for Leo's Landing, an inclusive playground at Saluda Shoals Park in Irmo, SC.
Even in his death, Isaac continued to give through his organ donation.
Isaac Asher was much loved and will be sorely missed.
