Obituary

J. Harold Hendrix Sr. 94 of 675 Hampton Dr. Newberry died Saturday December 10 2011 at his residence. He was born on April 28 1917 a son of the late Marcus Boyd Sr. and Eula Pitts Dennis Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix was an active member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church where he served as president of the Lutheran Men superintendent of Sunday School and on the Church Council. He was a member of the Adult Mens Sunday School Class Honorary Life Member of the United Lutheran Church Men and a former member of the church choir. Mr. Hendrix is survived by a daughter and her husband Harriett H. and William L. Bubba Easler of Lexington; a son and his wife Hal and Peggy Hendrix of Newberry; five grandchildren and their spouses Jessica and Brandon Morris Leah and Steven Fitts Ashlee and John Case Kimberly and Henry Dominick and Meagan Frick and Jason Bouknight; great-grandsons Luke and Levi Morris and William Fitts; sisters Martha Bowers of Silverstreet Fronie Chaney of Greenwood and Betty Willingham of Newberry; and brother M. Boyd Hendrix Jr. of Newberry. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years Evelyn Livingston Hendrix; a grandson Jesse Ward Hendrix; sisters Mae Wiehrs Lillian Bouknight Leora Walker and Corinne Merritt and brother Clarence L. Dennis Funeral services were conducted at 4 PM Monday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Mary Havens. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church the General Fund 1307 Drayton St. Newberry SC 29108. Active pallbearers were Brandon Morris Steven Fitts John Case Henry Dominick Jason Bouknight and Butch Price. The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Alan Paysinger and Hospice of Tri-County.
