Obituary

J. Pete Manos, 87, of Newberry, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born on October 25, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late James and Angela Stathis Manos. He was a U. S. Army Veteran. He graduated from and taught at Carlisle Military Academy. He was also a graduate of Clemson College where he played on the football team under Coach Frank Howard. An avid Tiger fan, he was very proud to have been a part of the team that beat the University of Miami in the 1951 Orange Bowl. Mr. Manos was the owner of two restaurants in Myrtle Beach, Mary Juel's House of Seafood and The Grill House. Pete was a gregarious person. He was a friend of everyone he ever met and always made others feel comfortable. To him everyone was family. He was the gardener with a green thumb and many can attest to his love of and excellence in shag dancing. He is survived by his wife, Mary Juel Manos; children; Henry Manos and Frank (Lori) Manos all of Chapin, Stat Manos of North Myrtle Beach, Dan (Beth) Manos of Longs, Susie (Jake) Coleman of Pomaria, Stephanie (Dugan) McLaughlin of Knoxville, TN and Steve (Sandy) Shelley of Pawleys Island; sister; Helen Donahoe, eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife, Kitty Brabham Manos; son, Pete LeRoy Manos; and sisters, Lucy Carayiannis and Mary Anastassiadis. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 P.M Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by Father Michael Plapanis. The family will receive friends following the service. The family of Mr. Manos thanks the staff at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home for their dedicated care.
