Obituary

J. Walker Schumpert Jr. 66 of Columbia died Friday at the Lexington Medical Center.Mr. Schumpert was born on May 20 1937 in Newberry a son of the late John Walker and Elizabeth Reese Schumpert. He was a graduate of Newberry College a retired systems analysis and was an organ donor. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia and was a former member of the congregational council. He was also a member of Lutheran Men and the Dutch Square Walkers. Mr. Schumpert was a very loving husband and father and he is survived by his wife Pawnee Counts Schumpert of the home; a daughter Kathy Pawnee Schumpert of Cumming GA; a son Dwayne Walker Schumpert of Irmo; a brother and sister-in-law R. David and Kathy Schumpert of Mountville; a sister-in-law and spouse Ruby and Earl Deaton of Prosperity; and two nieces Amy S. Owen of Cheraw and Laurie S. Carlton of Laurens.Funeral services for J. Walker Schumpert will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church by the Rev. Gary Loadholt. Interment will be at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at Newberry Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin.Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church or to Lutheran Men in Mission both c/o 525 St. Andrews Road Columbia SC 29210. .Messages to the family may be sent via email at notes@whitakerfuneralhome.com.
