Jack Hamby 67 of Prosperity passed away peacefully on Monday December 7 2015 at his residence. The family will received friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday December 10 2015 at Chapin Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Bill Ebener. He was born on August 28 1948 in Columbia the son of Catherine Bagwell Hamby of Irmo and the late John W. Hamby Sr. Jack was an US Army Veteran and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Era and he retired from SCANA after 35 years of service He was an avid fisherman and longtime member of the East Columbia Bass Masters. He enjoyed spending time on the lake and at the coast for saltwater fishing. In addition to his mother Jack is survived by his wife and best friend Jo Ann Hamby; stepson Mac (Robin) Auten; sister Linda (Jim) Kirby; granddaughter Kaitlin (Nic) Rattray; two precious great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Jake. He will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers will be Jim Kirby Wilbur Ray Marvin Brown Tony Castile Wesley Haygood and Glenn Miller.
