James Lawrence Aiken, Sr., known to many as "Mr. J", age 81, of Prosperity died Tuesday, December 7, 2021. While missed dearly by those he left behind, they rejoice in knowing he is now reunited with the love of his life and his wife for over 50 years, Lorretta Rose Brooks Aiken.
Born on July 3, 1940, in Greenville, SC he was a son of the late James Henry Edward and Laura Molly Lou Dix Aiken.
Over his 30-year career in construction, James worked for Davis construction, Daniel Construction, and Fluor Daniel company. He began as an electrical superintendent and grew to the role of project manager. Later, he owned and operated, Mr. J's service station in Chapin.
He was a member of Chapin Baptist Church, veteran of the US Army, and life-member of the Monaghan Masonic Lodge in Greenville. He enjoyed watching University of Kentucky football, Syracuse University basketball, and the Little League World Series. James loved fishing almost as much as he enjoyed eating the fish he caught. More than anything, James loved his family and especially treasured being "Paw-Paw" to his grandson, James.
He is survived by his son, James "Jamie" Lawrence Aiken, Jr. of Prosperity; grandchildren, James Michael Aiken and Cierra Nicole White; great-granddaughter, Addy Rose White; brothers, Richard Aiken (Donna) and Mike Aiken (Faye); sister, Fran Brooks; daughter-in-law, Cristen Aiken; nephews, Chad Aiken, Jason Aiken, Jeremy Aiken, David Brooks, and Michael Brooks; niece, Angela Aiken; great-nephews, Chance and Bryson Aiken; and great-nieces, Chloe Aiken and Lauren Drafts.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Kevin Brooks; great-nephew, Michael Lee Aiken; brother-in-law, Bill Brooks; and sister-in-law, Rebecca Wicker.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Michael Hull and Pastor Philip Vaughn at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Chapin Baptist Church. Military honors and Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 1 PM, on Tuesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be David Brooks, Mike Brooks, Chad Aiken, Bryson Aiken, Jason Aiken, and Chance Aiken.
Honorary pallbearers will be James and Kay Boland, Mike Chapman, Bryan Bowers, Chris Tyler, Barbara French, and Phillip Lucio.
Memorials are suggested to the Chapin Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund.
