James Cay Baker, 83, of 20828 US Highway 76, Newberry, SC, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2022. James was the son of Cay and Essie Adams Baker of Newberry. He was a retired Quality Control Inspector at V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant, Jenkinsville, South Carolina. He was also a former employee of the Atlantic Group, working at the Oconee Nuclear Plant, in Seneca, South Carolina. He was a member of Bush River Baptist Church, the Amity Lodge #87 AFM and Hejaz Shriners. He is survived by his wife, Jewell Mills Baker, of the home; a daughter, Sandra Baker Mosteller (Glenn) of Newberry; a son, Allen B. Baker of the home; three grandchildren, Nikki Baker (Michael Benton), of Newberry, Amy Baker, of North Carolina, and Lindsay Baker of Seneca; Great-grandchildren; Brooklyn Benton, Peyton Benton and Ryland Benton; one brother, Ralph Baker of Newberry, Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents; brother, Allen Baker; and sisters, Margaret Baker Ellison, Mary Alice Baker Trammell, Edna Baker Bodie, and Azilee Baker Nance. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday June 17, 2022 by Rev. Monte Osborne, Rev. Eric Trusdale and Rev. Glenn Mosteller in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Active Pallbearers are Floyd Baker, Richard Baker, Phillip Baker, Gene Baker, Ronnie Ellison, and Gerald Ellison. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Counts, Ronnie Beck, Roger Dale Trammell, Dean Trammell, Marty Nance, Greg Baker, David Baker, Dr. Alan Paysinger, Robert Hill, Sr., Robert Hill, Jr., Buddy Hill, and James Hill. The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Paysinger for his years of service and friendship to James Cay, Nurses Brianna Deans, Kelly Jo Hamilton, Desiree Cohen and the MSA Hospice Staff.
