James D. Jim Perry 90 of 2110 Adelaide St. Newberry died Wednesday July 31 2013 at White Oak Manor Newberry. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday August 3rd 2013 at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tresco Shannon. Interment with military honors was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Perry 1180 Hillbrook Lane Newberry and did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Masonic rites were held at 5:30 pm prior to visitation. Born on March 29 1923 in Newberry he was a son of the late James H. and Lucy Toll Perry. Mr. Perry was an active member of Central United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Amity Masonic Lodge #87 AFM; the Newberry Chapter #226 Order of the Eastern Star; York Rite Bodies of Newberry SC Council #20; Knight Masons USA; Valley of Columbia AA Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; Hejaz Shrine Temple; Newberry County Shrine Club; American Legion Post #24; VFW Post #5934; and the SC National Guard. He was also a member of AARP and Woodman of the World. Jim served 3 years with the US Army and retired as Command Sergeant Major after 35 years with the SC National Guard. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Richard W. Ricky and Jacqueline Jackie Lathrop Perry of Newberry; grandchildren Andrew Richard Drew Perry and wife Kathleen P. Katie Perry of Newberry and Nicole Renay Nikki Perry Hughes and husband Michael Hughes of Newberry; three great grandchildren Dakota and Bristol Perry and Jack Hughes; and a sister Henrietta Perry Shealy of Newberry. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Irma Harmon Perry; sisters Kathryn Perry Riley Jonelle Perry Rinehart and Betty Perry Epting; and a brother Thomas B. Perry The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Perry 1180 Hillbrook Lane Newberry and will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Masonic rites will be held at 5:30 pm prior to visitation. Active pallbearers will be Past Masters and Current Officers of the Amity Masonic Lodge #87. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Amity Masonic Lodge #87 and the Eastern Star. The family suggests memorials be made to Central United Methodist Church PO Box 67. Newberry SC 29108.
