Obituary

James Dale Dominick, 80, of Irmo, died Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Agape Hospice House in Lexington. Born on February 19, 1938 in Prosperity, he was a son of the late O.C. Dominick, Jr. and Etta Mae Cotney Dominick. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 and the Prosperity Fire Department for over 30 years, as well as a past member of the Newberry County Council. After retiring from Southern Bell, Mr. Dominick earned his CDL license and drove for Louis Rich. He also worked at the Newberry County Sherriff's Department and was known as the oldest person to graduate from the Law Enforcement Academy. Dale lived life to the fullest. He was an avid traveler, motorcycle enthusiast, and even earned a pilot's license to fly a single engine airplane. Mr. Dominick was an outdoors-man that enjoyed hunting and fishing and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Dana D. and Michael Dowling of Greer, Laura D. and Richard LaBarre of Newberry, Debra D. and Tracy Riley of Saluda and Denise D. and James Kimball Jones of Saluda; grandchildren, Steven Dowling (Andrea), Jennifer Sylvia D. Kondylas (Miles), Johnathan Eller, Brittany Eller, Joshua Eller, Jacob Riley, Tayler Jones Rowe (Johnathon), Mason Jones, Mac LaBarre (Adrianne) and Claudia LaBarre (Lance); great-grandchildren, Brooks Rowe and Laeoni Kondylas; siblings, Cornelia Collins of Columbia, Melvin Dominick and Judy Jennings (Leo) all of Prosperity; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and special companion, Starling Lowman and family of Irmo. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Jones Dominick and a brother, Robert Dominick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Zion United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Ralph T. Bowling, III. The family will receive friends in the family life center following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be any volunteer fire department members.
