Obituary

James Everette Sterling 87 of 2542 Henry Ave. Newberry died Thursday September 5 2013 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday September 8 2013 in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon and Rev. Randy Derrick. The family was at his residence and did receive friends and family from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Born on May 8 1926 he was a son of the late Charles F. and Vera Boozer Sterling. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the CSX Railroad after 41 years of service. Mr. Sterling was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Newberry where he was a member of the Fellowship/Adelphian Sunday School class. He has served as the church clerk taught Sunday School and went on 10 plus mission trips with the church. He also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels while he was able. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Frances Reese Miller Sterling; sons James Michael Mike Sterling (Robin) of Irmo Eric J. Miller (Shaye) of Newberry and Ranse R. Miller (Linda) of Prosperity; sisters Dorothy Dot Senn (Larry) of Newberry and Elizabeth Mauney of Taylors; brothers Charles Frederick Sterling Jr. (Mary) of Fredericksburg VA Boyce Edward Sterling (Libby) of Pasadena TX John T. JT Sterling (Florence) of Seneca; 5 grandchildren Thomas Miller Beth Miller Marina Miller Meghan Morse and Heather Hunter; and 6 great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Morse Harvey Shackelford and the members of the Fellowship/Adelphian Sunday School Class. The family suggests memorials be made to the Fellowship Fund First Baptist Church 1020 Boundary St. Newberry SC 29108 or Newberry County Animal Shelter 11494 SC Hwy 34 Newberry SC 29108.
