James G. Toon 88 of 411 Chowning Place Lexington died Monday October 7 2013 at Lexington Extended Care. Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday October 10 2013 in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. William Pauling. The family did receive friends at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry from 1:00 to 1:30 PM prior to the service. Mr. Toon was born on September 21 1925 in Huntsville AL a son of the late Canty and Christy McAfee Toon. He was a graduate of Anderson College in Anderson Indiana and retired as the Southeastern Regional Manager of Forenta in Moriston Tennessee. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. Throughout his life Mr. Toon was active in his faith. He helped build many churches taught Sunday School while living in Knoxville TN and enjoyed singing in church with his family. He is survived by his wife Ruby Turner Toon; two sons Leslie and David Toon both of Chattanooga TN; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a half brother Jerry Toon of Chattanooga TN. He was predeceased by sisters Beatrice Fritag and Pearl Smith and brother Walter Toon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.whitakerfuneralhome.com.
