James Leonard Golden, 83, of the Twin Lakes community passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Newberry, he was the son of the late James Dewey "Bus" and Sarah Shealy Golden.
He was a 1952 graduate of Newberry High School and a 1956 graduate of Wofford College. He was a member of the Terrier Club and Block "W" Club, and a member of the Newberry Moose Lodge #2211. He was a military veteran of the U.S. Army having served 18 months in the Pacific. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and former member of the Church Council. He was retired from Flagstar, Inc.
Along with his hobby of playing golf, his God-given talents of writing songs and playing the guitar were a special treat for all who knew him in the "Nite Life Band" in Newberry.
Mr. Golden is survived by his wife, Inez Pritchard Golden, brothers, Dewey Gerald Golden of Williamson, NY and Robert Wayne and wife, Sharon Sims Golden of Newberry, SC; nieces, Holly and Melanie Golden, Gretchen McGee, Natalie Scribner; nephew, Steve Golden; along with many beloved aunts and cousins.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 1430 John B. White, Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29306, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Alan Kinsey. Graveside service and burial will be conducted in Newberry Memorial Gardens, 15127 C. R. Koon Hwy., Newberry, SC 29108.
