James E. Jacobs, 87, of Newberry died Saturday, July 18, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
Born on June 7, 1933 in Great Falls SC, he was the son of the late Ernest and Rodelie Greer Jacobs and was married for 64 years to the late Dreamer Jacobs.
A veteran of the US Navy, he served during the Korean war and during peace time. James spent his career as a long-haul truck driver and was a member of the Joanna Church of God.
Mr. Jacobs was a quiet, honest man and always stood by what he believed. He was a hard worker, working most of his life, and he treasured those times where he could slow down and enjoy a vacation.
Survivors include his children, Jacqueline Long (Ray), Richard Jacobs (Wendy), and Charlene Prince (Tim), all of Newberry; a sister, Patsy Tucker of York, SC; 12 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter- in-law, Sandy Jacobs of Hartsville, SC. He is also survived by Suzanne Fulmer, whom he loved and cherished. Suzanne started out as a caregiver but quickly became part of the family.
He was predeceased by a son, Irwin Jacobs; a grandchild, Toby Jacobs, and a great-grandchild, Aubrey Perkins.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Rosemont Cemetery on Wednesday, July 22 at 10 AM by the Rev. James Chaffin.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Jolly, Jermiah Jacobs, Cody Jacobs, Thomas Jacobs, Mikey Jacobs, and Michael Haron.
The family suggests memorial fund contributions be made to the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry SC 29108.
