James "Jim" Carroll Brooks, Jr., 78, of Newberry died Friday, May 28, 2021 at his residence. Born on January 6, 1943 in Newberry, he was the son of the late James Carroll "J.C." Brooks and Doris Miller Brooks Fleming. Jim was a much sought-after painter, always taking pride in his work. He loved the Carolina Panthers and was an inaugural season ticket holder and every season since. Jim enjoyed antique shopping, making kraut, working on his model railroad, and fishing. He truly enjoyed the simple things in life. He is survived by his children, Jimmy Brooks and Christy Clary (Joey) of Kings Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Reagan Brooks and Isaiah Fox; and sister, Sandra Brooks Carr (Andy) of Greenville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, John Brooks. A time of gathering and sharing for Jim's friends and family will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
