Obituary

James Jim Gordon Shealy 66 of Newberry died Thursday March 31 2011 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. Mr. Shealy was born on January 29 1945 in Newberry a son of the late James Horace and Rosa Lee Sims Shealy. He was raised in Newberry and joined the US Navy in 1973 retiring from the Navy in 1985 as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement he worked in car sales construction and bait and tackle. He was an avid fisherman and a man who loved to cook for family and friends. Mr. Shealy was a member of West End Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Newberry Moose Lodge 2211 the American Legion Post 178 and the Roseboro Masonic Lodge #195. He is survived by his wife Lois Maddox Shealy; daughters Dawn Elizabeth (Allen) Gould of Augusta GA and Michelle Shealy (Rick) Wright of Martinez GA; grandchildren: Barbara Shealy Morgan Roberto Marin Shealy Wright and Emma Wright; great grandchildren Alex and Abby Morgan; brother Billy Jack Hoaglin of Niceville FL; mother-in-law Betty Maddox Cooper of Clark Hill; brother-in-laws David F. Maddox of Augusta and John (Melissa) Maddox Jr. of Clark Hill. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Monday April 4 at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. David Lyles. Interment with military honors was in West End Cemetery. Visitation was 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home In Newberry.
