James “Jim” Wesley Johnston, 80, of Chapin, SC, entered eternal life surrounded in love on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Jim was born on June 3, 1946 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Fred B. and Evelyn W. Johnston. He was predeceased by his wife Linda Boland Johnston of 28 years, beloved companion Lynne White, and daughter Flora Amick. He is survived by his children, Davis Jefferies, Jr. (Marie), Harold Jefferies (Richard), and James Johnston (Deana); grandchildren, Clara Slice (Wesley), Hannah Jefferies, Melinda Krantz, Leeanna Robertson, Britney Long (Mike), Benjamin Krantz (Annie), Evan Johnston, and Angelique Johnston; 8 great grandchildren; siblings Barbara Devore, Fred Johnston (Derlie), and Bette Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
For many years, Jim was a member of the executive management team of FB Johnston Group (previously Weisz Graphics), and was a charter member and former President of the Rotary Club of Chapin Sunrise until his health no longer allowed his participation. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Little Mountain Lodge No. 281 A.F.M.
Jim loved living his life to the fullest in every possible aspect! He loved people, and loved talking to anyone and everyone he came across. No one ever left a conversation with Jim without having a good laugh, wide smile, or brighter day. He loved traveling, classic cars, boating on Lake Murray, and good food. He had a special gift for making people feel seen and heard, and was someone truly any person could open up to. His generous heart influenced every decision he made; there is an endless list of people he selflessly assisted or took in just to make their life a little easier. He had an inviting nature that would make even a stranger feel right at home with him and his family, and a sense of humor that made everyone near him laugh. He truly saw the best in the world and poured his best right back into it.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Jim’s many loving caregivers, especially Julie Fowler, Colonial Gardens (Kelly, Jackie, and Joshua), Wells Pierce with Presbyterian Communities, All Seasons Hospice, and Amedisys Hospice.
The family would also like to thank everyone for their many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness during his illness.
Services will be conducted by the Reverend Ron Philabaum at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall beginning at 3:00 pm.
Memorials may be sent to Leeza’s Care Connection at 201 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
Whtiaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Johnston family.
