James "Jim" Michael Liptak died on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025. He was born on October 31, 1958, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late David and Phyllis Brown Liptak.

Jim devoted his life to the service of others, guided by a deep belief in the power of community and compassion. Whether through his professional work at the SC DOT, Public Works Director of Newberry County, or as the Water and Sewer Superintendent for the city. He demonstrated countless acts of quiet generosity and constant commitment to the community. But above all, the thing that brought Jim the most enjoyment in life was his family. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren; from spending hours in the kitchen cooking with his grandkids to going all out for Halloween and trick-or-treating, he relished every moment.

As a member of the Elloree Hunt Club, Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. When he wasn't outdoors, he could often be found working on his firearms or doing home repairs and renovations.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Tina Liptak; his three children, David (Emily) Liptak, of Newberry, South Carolina, Christina (Chad) Hardeman, of Houston, Texas, Joe (Andrea) Liptak, of San Antonio, Texas; and his six grandchildren, James Liptak, Chadwick Hardeman, Zade Hardeman, Emma Liptak, Liz Liptak, Eli Liptak. He is also survived by his siblings Mark (Beth) Liptak, of Tuckasegee, North Carolina, Barb Liptak, and Tommy Liptak both of Dayton, Ohio.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Whitaker Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m.
