IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edward
Medlock, Jr.
March 9, 1954 – November 8, 2022
James Edward Medlock, Jr., 68, of Newberry died Tuesday November 8, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on March 9, 1954, he was a son of the late Virginia Longshore and James Edward Medlock, Sr.
James began his welding career traveling the east coast learning the trade alongside his dad, "Suitcase". He worked for 33 years for BF Shaw in Laurens and eventually retired from the Savannah River Site as a welding inspector. James was a member of New Chapel United Methodist Church and was a Master Mason, Amity Lodge #87.
He loved the outdoors - deer and turkey hunting, and off-shore fishing with Linda. While he enjoyed them all, his passion undoubtedly bass fishing. James was a charter member of Saluda River Bass Fishing Club and competed in tournaments across the state. If you saw him, he was most likely to have a fish in his hand.
When he wasn't fishing, Pop was on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren. From Virginia baseball fields to the local soccer fields, he was there supporting his family. He may not have known all the rules, but he always knew who was the best.
James had a heart for helping others. Whenever he was asked, the answer was always 'yes.' His generosity towards others will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Cumalander Medlock; children, Jeremy Medlock (Suzanne), Jill Thurman (Trey), Gabriel Medlock (Brittany), and Kyle Medlock; grandchildren, Bryce and Lexi Medlock, Jaylan Burnore, Bryn Thurman, Gaven and Brody Medlock, and Makynlee Medlock; siblings, Betsy Medlock and Eunice Tresfgar (Phil); uncle, Donald Longshore; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Benton at 2:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2022, at New Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Spencer Lovelace, Three Oaks Hospice and MSA Home Health for the loving care they provided to James.
