Obituary

James P. Harris 54 of 471 Long Road Prosperity died Sunday October 12 2003 at his residence. Mr. Harris was born on Nov. 05 1948 in Newberry a son of the late J. Gardner and Juanita Crumpton Harris. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Specialist Four with U.S. Army Battery B 1St Battalion (Airmobile) 30th Artillery. He received numerous Awards and Commendation Medals for Heroism including a Bronze Star. He was an employee of Georgia Pacific Inc. of Prosperity for 20 years and was a member of the Prosperity Church of God. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife Mary Rogers Harris of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law Angela Tarlton of Chapin and Beth and Shannon Lawson of Prosperity; a son and daughter-in-law James and Robbie Harris of Prosperity; four sisters Rosie McCall of Newberry Judy Moore of Chappells Bernice Cawley of Pomaria and Carolyn Sexton of Prosperity; two brothers Clifton Harris and Tony Harris both of Prosperity; seven grandchildren Lakin Hoffman Brandon Harris Austin Harris Garrett Yarbrough Shea Lawson Joe Michael Lawson and Kaybree Stribble; and special friends of the family Wade Miles of Chapin Amanda and Brian Shealy of Prosperity and Bryan and Kristal Long of Prosperity. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Tamitha Courtney Hoffman. Funeral services James P. Harris will be conducted at 3:00 P. M. Wednesday at the Prosperity Church of God by the Rev. Bobby Lowman and the Rev. Sherril Green. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funreal Home. The family will be at the residence 471 Long Road.
