James Carol "Shot" Shealy, 81, died Saturday, October 14, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Chapin, he was the son of the late Willie Evans Shealy and Geneva Ballington Shealy.
Mr. Shealy was employed by the S.C. Tax Commission and retired from the S. C. Comptroller General's Office in 1993 with 38 years of State service. On September 1, 1993, he received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award given by the State of South Carolina. After retirement, he worked part-time with Lunsford Tax Services.
He was an active member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church where he had served on the Congregational Council, the Finance Committee and as a Sunday School teacher.
He was an avid sports enthusiast having played baseball for the Chapin town team of the Dutch Fork League, coached baseball and soccer teams for the Irmo-Chapin Recreation League, served as treasurer for the Chapin High School Athletic Booster Club, held membership in IPTAY for 51 years, and was a member of Lexington County Clemson Club where he served on the board and from which he received the "Tiger of the Year" award in 2002. He also enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Kay Barr Shealy; children, Paula Shealy-Garcia (Jose`) of Marietta, GA, Patrick Shealy ("Peaches") of Chapin, Kenneth Shealy (Allison) of Fairfax, VA; grandsons, Gabriel Garcia and Cooper Shealy; step-grandchildren, Arielle Garcia Hayes, Joseph Garcia and Christopher Trett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Shealy, Robert (Patsy) Shealy, Charlie (Ann) Shealy, Albert (Sharon) Shealy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annette Stuck, Nancy (John) DiMascio of Lexington, and Peggy (Charley) Frick; sister-in-law, Anne Shealy; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Wendell and John Shealy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph G. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church following the burial.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
