James "Tank" Robert Spitzer, 55, of Newberry died Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Hospice of Laurens County. Born on July 14, 1965, he was the son of Barbara Elfast Catling and the late Roy Crittdon Spitzer.
James worked as a truck driver with Williams Brothers Trucking for many years.
Before that, James served in the United States Army as a tank commander during Desert Storm.
James was creative and had many hobbies. One of his special talents was building dioramas of WWII tanks and other military equipment. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was known for being a "military buff".
James is survived by his mother, Barbara; brother, Harry A. Catling of Stuart, Florida; special friend, Becky Ruff; and his two cats, Goose and Maverick.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Landry.
James will be interred at South Florida National Cemetery.
