James R. "Jimmy" Tingley, age 73, of Newberry died Thursday June 2, 2022 at his home. Born November 2, 1948 in Catawissa, PA, he was a son of the late Harold W. and Irene Bittenbender Tingley.
James served in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He spent his career as a carpenter in the construction industry and was an expert at his craft.
Woodworking was also a hobby for James, and he was talented at anything he created, including intricate puzzles. He also enjoyed fishing on Lake Murray and playing cornhole with friends and family. James was active in the Catawissa VFW and the Columbia Valley Moose Lodge #27.
James is survived by a daughter, Jenny Margaros (David Roberts) of King George, VA; a son, Jeremy Tingley (Jamie) of Benton, PA; a brother, Kenneth Tingley of Florida; a sister, Linda Hoban of Colorado; and grandchildren ,Tori and Levi Tingley, and Jacob Randall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Tingley.
Memorial services for James will be held at a later date.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the VFW, Help a Hero Scholarship at 406 W. 34th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.
