The angel wings of Janette Mills Vaughn got brighter on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Born in Newberry on February 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Helen Davenport Mills. Janette worked as the lunchroom manager at Mid Carolina Junior High School and was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she participated in the Essie Hawkins Circle Club and the G.A.L.S. Group. A friend to all, Janette never met a stranger. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, loved all people and encouraged new people she met to "come by" to see her and to eat. Those who did found a warm open place to be themselves and some wonderful fried pies. Janette found joy and fulfillment in taking care of everyone, especially her family. She was an involved grandmother, taking great pride in her grandchildren. Janette is survived by her daughters, Sharon Morton (Glen) of Cross Hill, SC and Anna Skipper (Van) of Gilbert, SC; her sisters, Vanessa Boozer of Newberry and Judy Epting (Ray) of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Buddy Kunkle of Prosperity; her grandchildren, Terence Burdette (Rachel), Tanner Burdette (Nicole Narmanli), Kayla Skipper (Jason Farr), and Ashley Skipper; and her great grandchildren; Logan, Kinsey, Kaylee Conner and Colton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, L.V. Mills and David Mills; sisters, Margaret Wicker and Betty Wicker; and the love of her life, Herman Willie Vaughn, Jr. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Jason Shaffer on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 3 PM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church with a visitation beginning at 1 PM in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4056 St Luke's Church Rd, Prosperity, SC 29127.
