IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Lou Cox
Balis
July 19, 1937 – May 3, 2025
Janice Lou Cox Balis, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, died on the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born in Ellison, West Virginia, on July 19, 1937, Janice was raised by the late Clyde William Cox and Clara Lou Cox.
A woman of many talents and interests, Janice dedicated over 20 years of her life as a secretary working in vocational education- but most of all she had a passion for the great outdoors. Growing up in West Virginia, Janice enjoyed camping trips in the mountains and swimming in The New River Gorge- always finding joy and peace in the simple pleasures of nature. She also loved to work in her garden, taking great pride in her Petunias, Irises, Roses, and Rhododendrons; often times you could find her accompanied by her dog, Prissy.
Janice was an excellent seamstress making many things for the home and family. Whether it was curtains, pillows, placemats or clothing she would stay up late in the night sewing. She truly enjoyed her creations.
Janice was a member of Parchment Valley Baptist Church. There she helped with cooking and serving others. Janice truly enjoyed serving at the church in any way she could. She cherished her many friends she had there. They were part of her family.
Janice also loved going to family reunions where she was able to see and visit with her beloved aunts and uncles and cousins there in West Virginia. It was one of the highlights of her summer.
She is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor her memory: her devoted daughter Kathleen Joette (Charles) Ward of Newberry, SC; her son Ronald (Kelly) Balis of Ravenswood, WV; her grandson Dallas (Ashley) Ward of Arkansas; and her great-grandson Austin Ward. Janice is also survived by her stepdaughter Reign Price (PJ Click) of Point Pleasant, WV. Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Leon Balis, with whom she shared many cherished years.
Janice is also predeceased by her parents and brother, Clyde Karrington Cox.
Graveside services will be held at Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville, West Virginia at a later date.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Janice Lou Cox Balis.
