Obituary

Janie Ina Davis Warren of Newberry 89 joined her beloved family in heaven on Monday Aug. 25. Visitation was from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. John Miller. Interment did follow at Rosemont Cemetery. She was the widow of Nathan Burton (N.B.) Warren Jr. Mrs. Warren was born Sept. 6 1924 in Newberry a daughter of the late Munson P. and Janie Thomasson Davis. She graduated from Newberry High School in 1941 and in 1943 she graduated from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse. Her nursing career began as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps from 1942 to 1945 at Camp Croft. When World War II ended she was caring for wounded soldiers in Washington D.C. but she soon returned home because she missed her family. Mrs. Warren then cared for patients at Newberry County Memorial Hospital where she retired after 32 years as a general duty nurse and supervisor. Even in her retirement she continued to work part-time in the hospital pharmacy. Truly Mrs. Warren embodied the highest ideals of her profession. She provided to all patients--regardless of color or income--the highest-quality nursing care. With her unsurpassed nursing skills unfailing good humor and unbounded compassion she won the respect of patients physicians and co-workers alike. Above all things Mrs. Warren loved her family worked for family rejoiced in family. She sparkled at family gatherings and enjoyed handing out the Christmas gifts and hiding the Easter eggs for the children. In her final years she often spoke with longing about "going home" to be with her parents again. Her lifetime of service to her profession and to her family provides a powerful witness to her faith. Mrs. Warren was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church where she attended the Ezell Bible Class. Mrs. Warren is survived by: daughter Margaret (Biff) Riebe son David (Macey) Warren and daughter Beverly (Danny) Williams; grandchildren Jenny Riebe (Steve) Hamilton Jonathan Riebe Will (Melinda) Warren Sarah Warren Morgan Willliams; and great-grandchildren Gracyn Hamilton Anna Warren and Katelyn Timmons; sister Eva James Wherry; and a host of nieces and nephews to whom she was affectionately known as "Aunt Sis." Mrs. Warren was predeceased by: her husband her granddaughter Lane Williams brother Neal Davis and sisters Margaret Davis Carlisle and Annie Laurie Davis Graham. Pallbearers were Jim Carlisle Robert Davis David Dorroh Marty Dorroh Henry Summer and John Paul Whitaker. Honorary pall bearers were Manning Dukes Doris Shahid the Ezell Bible class and the staff of the Folk unit at J.F. Hawkins. The family was at the residence of David Warren 1111 Claude Counts Rd.
