Jerry Epting Service
Jerry Paul Epting, 87, died Friday, August 27, 2021 at Ponte Vedra Gardens in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Born in Newberry, South Carolina on May 15, 1934, he was a son of the late Homer and Reba Fulmer Epting.
Jerry served in the United States Army National Guard for 21 years, retiring as Captain. Jerry also worked for CSX Transportation as Chief Engineer responsible for the maintenance of over 23,000 miles of railroad track. He retired in 1996 after 43 years of service.
Jerry was an active member and Deacon Emeritus of Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He loved to play golf, fish, travel and ride his motorcycle. Jerry also enjoyed working on and restoring his classic 1931 Ford Model A.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce Moore Epting; children, Helen Reba Robbins (Tommy) of Overland Park, Kansas, Jerry Paul Epting, Jr. (Cathy) of Lakeland, Tennessee and Russell Epting (Jennifer) of St. Johns, Florida; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Charles Epting and Homer O. Epting, Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted by his grandson, the Reverend Jon Epting, on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10 AM at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry, SC. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
