Jimmy Ray Pruitt, 85, of Newberry, SC passed away at his home on May 23, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born on September 30, 1939 in Newberry County, he was the son of the late Jimmie S. Pruitt.
Jimmy Ray was a graduate of Newberry College, where he met the love of his life when he saw her walking across campus. He was also a member of the Naval Reserves.
He was employed by Kendall Company as a cotton buyer, and worked there for 35 years until he retired. Upon his retirement, he began driving for the County Council on Aging where he worked for 20 years. Jimmy Ray was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where he was active in church council, Sunday School treasurer, and various committees.
Jimmy Ray's favorite past times were skiing on the lake, hunting, fishing, driving the tractor, and "breaking stuff" at the farm.
Jimmy Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patsy Pruitt; daughter, Sheila Ellisor; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Chelsea Ellisor Whitlock and Ryan Whitlock; sister and brother-in-law, Bobby and Jean Lynch of Chattanooga, TN; his nieces and nephews; Amy and Robbie Speaks, Chuck and Ashley Fraser, Jeff Lynch and Jeanie Babb, Beth and Richard Mize, along with many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his son, Robert Craig Pruitt and sister and brother-in-law, Jim (Coley) and Joyce Fraser.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Matthew Titus at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, May 26 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
Pallbearers: Ryan Whitlock, Jeff Lynch, Gavin Mize, Robert Livingston, Alan Davenport, Tripp Speaks, and Andrew Livingston.
Honorary pallbearers who are his childhood friends: Bill Mason, Elmer Long, Von Long, Steve Morse, Bobby Morse, Larry Luckett, David Wilson and Nikki Blease.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1515 Boundary St., Newberry SC 29108.
