Jo An (Josephine Anderson) Manning, 84, died on March 8 in Charlotte, NC. Born in Wayside, GA, in 1932, into a Presbyterian minister's family, she grew up in Monarch, SC; Lagrange, NC; Rutherfordton, NC; and Lashmeet, WV. Childhood memories included visits to her Grandmother Leila Eugenia Boozer in Newberry, and Aunt Evie and Uncle David Boozer in Gaffney. She attended Columbia Bible College for two years, then graduated from Wheaton College in 1954. She went to nursing school at Western Reserve University in Ohio. In Atlanta she worked at the Visiting Nurses' Association, and in 1975 became a nurse practitioner, working at Grady Memorial Hospital. She moved to Charlotte in 2014 to be near family. In the Atlanta area she first attended Ingleside Presbyterian Church, and then Crossroads Presbyterian starting in 1982. Many summers she attended Peniel Bible Conference in New York, thankful for their practical scriptural teaching. She was predeceased by her father, Frederic Easley Manning, Sr., her mother, Josephine Wright Boozer Manning, and her brother, Frederic E. Manning, Jr. She is survived by sisters MaryGene M. Longenecker (Charlotte, NC) and Evelyne Manning (Chicago, IL) as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, "adopted" son and family, and a host of friends, old and new. Memorial services were held in April in Stone Mountain, GA, and in Charlotte, NC. The inurnment with a graveside service will be held at the Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Newberry, SC, on Saturday, October 21, at 3 PM conducted by cousin and retired minister Marion Boozer.
