Joan Dennis Granny O ODell 78 of 225 ODell Road Newberry died Sunday March 18 2012 at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday March 21 2012 at the Glory Tabernacle Church by the Rev. Joel Mundy and Rev. Jeff ODell. The body was placed in the church at 3:00 PM. Interment did follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family did receive family and friends on Tuesday from 6:00 8:00 PM at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Joan was born in Newberry on August 26 1933 a daughter of the late Jessie Thompson and Tarsie Singley Dennis. She was a member of Glory Tabernacle Church where she served on the Deacon Board and also as church secretary for a number of years. She was a member and very active in Womens Aglow ministries. Mrs. ODell worked at the Clemson Extension Office and was always involved in her community actively participating in a number of organizations and clubs particularly enjoying her work with the Interfaith Community Services and Manna House. Joan was currently presenting on Morning Devotions which airs on WKDK. She is survived by her husband of 58 years William O. Billy ODell; daughter Heather ODell of Newberry; sons and their spouses Jeff and Kim ODell Mike and Cindy ODell Steve ODell and Blue ODell all of Newberry; grandchildren Sara Rusty Teal ODell Sloan ODell Mayer Dillon Bryar and River ODell and a great granddaughter Abbigale ODell all of Newberry. She was predeceased by her parents infant son Russel Patrick O'Dell and brother Calvin Dennis. Active pallbearers will be Todd Sanders Randy Bickley Joshua Parsons Chip Caldwell Miller Jacobs and Earl Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class.
