Obituary

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Jodie Stribble Hazel, 64, of Austin, Texas passed away June 13, 2024 with her loving husband and daughter at her side.

Born on October 30, 1959 in Newberry, SC, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie James Stribble and Betty Dickert Stribble.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Dale Hazel; daughter, Tara Lynn Hazel; sister, Debra Stribble Willingham (Robert Earl, Jr.); brother, Johnny Dickert Stribble (Dawn); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jodie graduated from Newberry High School in 1978 and studied Business Administration at Rutgers University in New Jersey before earning a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.

As an unwavering supporter of her husband's business pursuits, Jodie lived her life in a diverse cross section of communities around the United States, including the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego, California; Central New Jersey; Northern Virginia; Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin, Texas; in addition to South Carolina. Jodie was loved by people from all walks of life due to her easy-going personality, her beautiful smile, her genuine interest and concern for others and her photographic memory of the likes and dislikes of virtually everyone she met.

After working as a hairstylist in shops around the country from South Carolina to New Jersey to Palo Alto, California, she worked in banking and finance roles in Columbia, South Carolina, and San Diego, California.

When her daughter Tara was born in 1999, Jodie devoted herself to raising and developing her daughter, who became her closest friend and proudest accomplishment.

Always an avid supporter and friend of animals, Jodie was often found caring for all sorts of animals in addition to her own pets. Whether it was tending to an injured mountain lion and other animals in a wildlife rescue in rural San Diego or stopping her car to rescue an errant horse and return it to safe pasture, she would never pass up an opportunity to help animals. She leaves behind her beloved rat terrier Ryder and black cat Luna who will miss her dearly.

Jodie's husband Dale and daughter Tara will be forever grateful for her unyielding dedication to her roles as wife and mother and in always building a caring, supportive and fun home life wherever their journeys took them.
