Obituary

Joe E. Frick Sr. of Chapin died Friday June 5 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday June 8 2015 at Macedonia Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin. Born on June 13 1939 in Chapin SC he was a son of the late Harvey E. Frick and Agnes Derrick Frick. Mr. Frick graduated from Columbia High School class of 1957. Following graduation he worked with his parents in the lunch room at Belks Department Store on Main St. in Columbia SC. He loved air planes and had always wanted to be a pilot. Although not able to become a pilot because of health restrictions he attended Weaver Aviation School in Kansas City MO and went to work with Piedmont Airlines as a ticket agent. He was promoted to supervisor over ground personnel until he had to go on Long Term Disability after 18 years. He retired with a total of 35 years with what is now US Airways. Joe had two dreamsone was to own a Harley Davidson Motorcycle on which he and Wanda did a lot of traveling and the second was to see Montana. Both dreams were fulfilled. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He was a past member of Dutch Fork Optimist Club a member of the Jolly Rollers Camping Club and a charter member of the Western Squares Square Dance Club of Chapin. He also loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Wanda Phillips Frick; their son Joe Edward Frick Jr. his daughter Michelle Minor McAlister and her fianc Jeff Bradshaw his son Ira B. Minor IV; three grandchildren Samantha Grace McAlister Victoria Nicole Wanda Minor and Michael Henry Minor; a great grandchild Allonabelle Rhoden; and many cousins including special cousins Leon and Brenda Fulmer and Leon Fulmer Jr. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers Association 3223 Sunset Blvd Suite 100 West Columbia SC 29169 or to Macedonia Lutheran Church New Life Center 49 Macedonia Church Road Prosperity SC 29127. Pallbearers will be Leon Fulmer Sr. Leon Fulmer Jr. Derrie Blanton Heyward Bickley Jr. Allen Derrick and Travis Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jolly Rollers Camping Club Brent Haltiwanger Ronnie and Tonia Boland and Dennis and Ernestine Todd.
