John Benjamin Lindsay 92 of 1929 Evans St. Newberry died Tuesday June 28 2011. Born in Chester SC on August 23 1918 he was a son of the late Henry Calhoun and Ruth Chambers Lindsay. Mr. Lindsay was a Navy veteran of WWII and for over 65 years worked in the furniture industry. He was the founder and co-owner of Lindsay Furniture Company. Mr. Lindsay was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. He is survived by his wife of 72 years 1 month and 20 days Atlee Davis Lindsay; son J. B. Johnny Lindsay II and wife Kathy Epting Lindsay of Newberry; grandchildren; Suzy and Randy Fowler Jack and Cindy Grainger Benji and Kirsten Lindsay Ryan and Shannon Lindsay and Robin and Allan Vance; and great-grandchildren Hunter Fowler Jennifer Kayla and Atlee Grainger Emma and Ben Lindsay Grace Lindsay Amelia and Weston Vance. He was predeceased by a daughter Molly Davis Lindsay sisters Alice L. Reid and Annie Laura Robbins and brothers George H. Lindsay and James Henry Lindsay. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Dr. David Seymour. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Pallbearers were Bill Brice Sid Crumpton Mike Davenport Grady Dominick Alan Foster and Ray Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Jewel Oxner Mike Darby Bill Franklin and Elon Eargle. The family suggests memorials be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Growing in Grace Building to Serve Fund 1515 Boundary St. Newberry SC 29108.
