John Hubert Caldwell 89 of Newberry died Saturday November 19 2011 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born in Saluda County on October 9 1922 he was the son of the late Hobson and Phoebe Perry Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell is a Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from Louis Rich. He is survived daughters Nita C. Parnell and Judy C. (Wally) French both of Newberry; sisters Ozie Krell of Prosperity Sudie Berry of Saluda and Joyce Harling of Edgefield; brothers Ted (Gloria) Caldwell of Saluda and Heyward (Mae) Caldwell of Boise ID; grandchildren Melody (Joey) Werts Jay (Andrea) Hawkins Darlene (Jody) Branham Kevin (Tracy) Jordan and John Jordan; step-grandchildren Tanya French Wally French and Justin Hill and great-grandchildren Seth Branham Rachel (Phillip) Bowles Hali Kitchen Lacy Hawkins Caitlin Branham Jordan Branham and Ethan Hawkins. He was predeceased by his wife Lillie Berry Caldwell; sisters Elizabeth Forrest and Willard Bickley; and grandson Mark Kitchen and step great-grandaughter Alyana Hill. The family was at 1224 Glenn St. Newberry and did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Interment with military honors was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Jay Hawkins Joey Werts Kevin Jordan John Jordan Jody Branham Seth Branham and Phillip Bowles. Honorary pallbearers were nurses CNAs and staff of J.F.
