John Allen "Johnny" Marlowe, 59, of Newberry died Sunday, May 9, 2021 at MUSC Charleston. He was born on December 27, 1961, the son of Peggy Pitts Marlowe and the late John Eugene Marlowe.
Johnny was a kind and loving person. Remembered as a one-of-a kind Spanish teacher, he taught at Mid-Carolina High School for 31 years. Tough yet fun, he enjoyed challenging his students and took pride in their accomplishments. And he was passionate about the theater and started auditioning for plays at the age of 11. He was active with the Newberry Community Players for many years and volunteered at the Newberry Opera House.
Johnny enjoyed watching stock car racing, especially driver, Chase Elliot. He was a fan of country music and enjoyed singing songs for funerals and weddings. Most of all, Johnny loved his Momma, his friends, and his students.
Johnny is survived by his mother, Peggy "Aunt P" Pitts Marlowe; a 1st cousin, Kimberly Allen (Joe) of Newberry; 2nd cousins Emily Allen and Matthew Allen, of Newberry; and special friends, Randolph Turner, his children and grandchildren of Goose Creek, Terri Longshore of Newberry, and Stanley "Doc" Longshore of Newberry.
