John Landon Long, 75, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at White Oak Manor in Newberry.
Born on May 18, 1943 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late George William and Pearl Miller Long. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from PCA.
John had been an active member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church where he had served on the Congregational Council, taught Sunday School Class and been a member of the Mt. Pilgrim Swingers and the Lutheran Men in Mission. He was an avid reader and great story teller. And he loved caring for his horses and spending time with his cats and dog.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Daniel Long (Sepricia) of Columbia; siblings, Donald Miller Long (Linda) of Prosperity and Olivia Claudette Long of NY; granddaughter, Reyce Long; step granddaughters, Audreanna Diamond and Saquoia Harris; niece and nephew, Donna Long Snelgrove (Dean) and Bryan Edward Long (Kristal); great nephews, Jesse Snelgrove (Brenda), Scott Snelgrove (Anna), Dalton Snelgrove (Nicole Pressley), Casey Snelgrove and Joseph A. Long; and great niece, Stephanie Long Taylor (Joshua).
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Evelyn Long.
The family will be at the home of Bryan and Kristal Long, 358 Long Rd. Prosperity.
They will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday, January 22 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the church conducted by the Rev. Bobby Morris with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Joshua Taylor, Jesse Snelgrove , Scott Snelgrove, Dalton Snelgrove , Casey Snelgrove and Joseph A. Long .
Honorary pallbearers are employees of White Oak Manor and Dr. Oscar Lovelace.
Mr. Long's family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Lovelace, the employees of White Oak Manor and the employees of Crescent Hospice Care for their kindness and care given to him.
